Well I am diving into another project. I've always been a fan of the AIO units ever since I had my first salt tank (28G jbj nano). I stumbeled upon this in the for sale section over at nano reefs, its a 6 gallon AIO cube made of acrylic (12 3/4 x 12 3/4 x 8 3/4). It is a basic copy of the bio cubes with the false wall. It has a minijet 606 return pump and some LED lights. Not quite sure what the plan is yet as far as livestock/coral.

I am running a JBJ LED light for this tank, I know its not that powerful but I don't plan on any SPS. I thik it will grow LPS/zoas/shrooms just fine..

I like the rimless look but didn't want all the light spillage since this might go in my bedroom or living room. So I thought how about a mini canopy?? A friend of mine at work can make damn near anything out of wood and is very skilled so I told him I wanted a mini canopy for this little cube. So he cut the legs off the light and built be a sweet little canopy. Light mounts nicely inside the canopy with a removable back section to fill water, change filter floss etc.. etc.. When he brought it to work he even made a mini stand for it.. I love the look. I am in the process of staining it now. This thing is so clean looking.

Well I got a little more done, the stand and canopy are all stained and sealed. I also mounted the LED light on the inside of the canopy. The removable back panel will allow me to feed the tank and add top off water. just waiting on some sand in the mail, I already bought 10lbs of nice live rock. I doubt I see a cycle at all.

Wow, I think as soon as I'm done with my 100g tank I'm going to be building something along this line for my room. That canopy looks killer man! Congrats

That's pretty sweet. You are going to need some airflow through that canopy though. Your going to have heat issues and Condensation will build up and burn that light out within a month. Either keep that back panel off or see if your friend can drill a hole for a little PC fan and maybe a couple little exhaust holes. It's shaping up to be a nice little build though. I'll follow along. Good luck.

I do leave the panel off during the day when the lights are out. I also have a pane of glass covering the light. Temps stay right @ 78.

Thanks its coming along nicely!

Update: Everything is growing pretty good.. I have 1 small clown an 1 small chromis in there with a few snails and 1 blue leg hermit crab. Believe it or not this has been a very easy tank. Just fill up with top off water now and then, do a 2 gallon change every three weeks and that's it.
