I am going to use a 10 gal tank for holding tank I plan on using 1/4 gallon per night on dosing controller. My question is how many days can the kalkwasser stay in holding/mixing container till I finish using it? If my math is correct .25 gal per day 10 gal tank. It should last 40 days. I thought I have read somewhere to cover it and it was only good to use for so many days but I can't remember how long that was.

Also why does it expire?

Thx roger

My trash cans last a month on the porch as long as they are covered. CO2 is the problem. Cover your tank to keep out air and it will degrade very slowly.

It reacts with CO2 from the air to make insoluble calcium carbonate (sand)

So it will turn to sand and I will be able to sell it is not usable anymore?

I don't know if you can sell it or not, but it's certainly not going to be usable as kalk anymore.

I figured that was a typo of some kind, but I wasn't sure what it was supposed to say. I guess that's pretty obvious now. lol.
