HoB Filter Questions

I recently a few days ago setup a 40 Breeder and I have a AC 110 running on it from an established tank to try and cycle the tank quickly.

I also have 50lbs Black Live Sand + 10 lbs of cycled established sand in the tank, and used Reef Crystals.

Tomorrow I will be receiving 60lbs of BRS reef saver rock, 2x 800gph power heads, phosban 550 reactor, BRS Octopus HoB Skimmer, 4 stage Ro / DI ect..

How long should I leave the HoB filter on the system before I could safely take it off without taking out to much of the good bacteria to make the system un-stable.

Because I did not drill the tank I decided I want to use the Aquaclear 110 as a place to hang chemi-pure elite + carbon.

Although i wouldnt reccomend this method, id say give it about 2-3 weeks and strip it every week before removing the HoB.

And does the HoB have a bio-wheel?

I used a AC 70 on my 20l for media only, and it worked great.

No biowheel - just has a huge *** sponge filter

i use a AQ 110 as a mini refugium, chaeto is growing pretty good.

I have had mine running since I started my 46. Its completely gutted and does not run a sponge filter. I can see the pods running all over the place and on my ATS I have running on it. It also houses LR that I use to glue frags on. So im constantly throwing new pieces of rock and frag tiles in. Also, my intake tube is a modded pvc intake and surface skimmer.
