so i've made a DIY T5 fixture and i need to hang it I would like them on pulleys so i can pull it up and down. I'm having difficulty understanding how to put it all together. I understand i would need 4 pulleys, one for each corner so when i pull on all four cables the fixture will rise. Is it that simple, I'm sure ive seen some people just pull on one wire and it rises, how have you made yours?

does it keep the light balanced with only 2 pulleys?

It is import how you attach the pulley to the light. If you try and mount the pulley to the center of each end you will have to find the correct balance point. But the better way is to attach a cable or small chain to each corner of the light fixture. Making an upside down Y.The pulleys single connection at the top and the to points at the light. You can adjust the chain to level the light once it is hanging.

Here is a picture of mine, I think it is self explanatory

Check out this pulley for plants. It could not be easier then this.

That would depend on how much weight they will hold. Plus having 2 or 4 of them as individual working pulleys could be an bit difficult to raise and lower the light evenly. Not to mention you would be relying on their locking system to hold your light up over your tank. The bike pulley evenly lifts both ends of the light rail and holds up to 50 lbs. It also comes with a clit that you can wrap the remaining rope around to insure that if the lock system does fail the lights are not going to come crashing down into your tank.

Mine is in a wall so you don't see this, but it is on a counterweight and stainless steel cables.
