Sicce power heads

Have liked these powerheads for a couple of years now very powerfull.
They have a drawback the impellar cage has big enough opening a snail can get in and brake the impeller. To my shock I now find thei charging over $70 for the impeller. So buyer beware

could you put a piece of filter foam there or maybe glue a piece of screen there to help that?
