Hello all,
I bought a used tank from a guy off ebay(120gal) and its got a fake rock wall for the backing covering the plumbing. He used styrofoam and coated it with some sort of thin rock coating. Is it safe to leave this wall in? I would hate to rebuild this thing only to find this wallshould've been taken out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Did he use it for a reef? If you dont know what its made out of I would rip it apart. Also do you know what's behind the wall? It might be a bunch of gunk that you dont want circulating in your tank. All in all if it were me I would just rip it out and paint the back glass behind the aquarium black.

Pics would help with assessment

Yeah he had it set up running a reef tank. I'm gonna be safe and tear it out I guess.better safe than sorry. I'll post a pic of it shortly.

If you like the way it looks, then I'd probably just fill it with RO/DI and test the water.

I suspect that the only thing you'd have to worry about would be if it is leeching phosphates. Probably want a more experienced person to chime in on what you should test for, but I suspect it isn't all that much of a danger especially if it was already used in a reef tank.

If it were me i would rip it out. It doesnt look like a good job and that first picture looks like it has some gunk stuck behind it.
