My hardness in my 70 gallong mixed reef has been falling steadily despite dosing Kent 2 part to it. I do not even need the Ca as it hangs pretty steady.
What I have been wondering though is running my fuge box full of chaeto only, no sand is on 24 hours a day. Could the co2 from the algae growth lower the kh over time?
Tank particulars:

1.025
8.15 ph
78.5 temp
nitrates .25 or less
phosphates unreadable
magnesium 1340
Ca 440
KH 7 today which is the lowest its ever been. Been hanging around 8 most of the time.

Been dosing 3.7ml a day of Kent Part B

I am thinking I will raise the tank back to 8.5ish over a day or two and then increase my alk dosing to 5ml per day and see what happens.

Wide open to ideas and theorys.
It may be I just need more alk supplement?

Jeff

Tank is 6 months old BTW. A 4 inch Acropora millipora and a 4 inch Pink Stylophora and a baseball sized piece covered in Blue montepora and about 8 sps frags plus a rapidly growing softball sized Duncan, Torch and frogspawn.
And a small 2" Maxima clam and 5 inch Crocea clam. 75 lbs of live rock.

The tank probably just needs more supplement. Chaetomorpha won't consume alkalinity.
