Im new to the LED lighting world, always used MH but had to get out of the hobby for a bit while I moved and got settled into a new city and job. My question is what are good brands that will be strong enough to grow sps corals and that wont cost an arm and a leg like the ecotechs

Reef breeders are great. I have two proton 24's over my 75 and they were under $600.
They have group buys and are very affordable then.

OceanRevive or Reefbreeders are to 2 most popular on this site. you will hear the name EverGrow, this is the company that makes the lights for most of the vendors.

I have 2 OR Arctic T247 fixtures over my 72g mixed reef. so far they are decent lights and were very decently priced.

I have 4 Ocean Revive T247 fixtures over my 180. Only had them for two weeks but boy they are awesome! !!! Great bang for the money.
They are a Sponsor of Reef Central.

depending on the size of your tank, the Ocean revive and Reef breeders are great. If you have room for a pair of T5 supplements also you will not see much difference between the combo and Metal Halide once dialed in.......other than savings in electricity and lower heat.
