I will be setting up a 72 gallon bow tank this summer and I am wondering how much flow I should have in terms of GPH? I keep mostly LPS coral, soft corals and fish right now. I just bought an acro coral to try. These are in a 20 gallon now. I am thinking of having a return pump that does 692 GPH. The powerhead I was looking at does 1560 GPH is that too much? Or what would be a good power head GPH for a tank of this size?

ok ill give it a shot here...you dont really want to add in your return pump for over all flow. yes it does contribute but the actual gph from the return pump should be based off of your overflow box. so its really just added flow. but does count towards over all flow...
based on just the numbers you presented, it will give you about 31x-32x turnover rate which is perfect for LPS and softies. some LPS may need lower flow so you may have to play around with placement. as far as any SPS you have, the flow is borderline for them, but if you place them in a high flow area, you should be fine..
just a lil advice to ya, normally you dont want just one powerhead running a full tank. its better to split it up and have multiple powerheads. so 2 would work great. i would strongly suggest looking into the jebao wp10s or wp25s...but i do believe the wp10s would be best for what you have coral wise already...

Okay. I already have a powerhead in my tank that is 500 GPH so in the 72 I would have one thats about 1560 GPH and then the 500 GPH as well with the added flow of the overflow. Does that sound like it would be good? Or should I split the 1560 into another 2 powerbeads?
