It would work but it would be marginal, if the wiring is a little corroded or the connection is not secure it could be problematic, you really want at least 1000mA at 9V or 1200mA at 12V.

I presume that 1000 mA at 9v will produce less gallons per hour than the 1200 mA at 12v ?

Somewhere I read that 5000.02 pump does about 13 gph

I will be ordering pump new, does the wire end come stripped or is there any type of connection on it?

If wired wrong will pump just work in reverse, or can it damage pump?

Yes, at 12V it will be stronger, at 9V it will be quieter though. Keep in mind this pump is meant for short cycles, it should not be run more than 10 minutes at a time.

The wire end comes stripped and tinned, their is no wrong way to connect them so long as one is + and one is -.
