Yea seriously!
I bought a 3" female Blackspot/Japanese Swallowtail Angelfish (Genicanthus Milanospilos) on 12/27/13 (My Birthday present to myself). It was the 3rd fish in my tank (2 Occellaris clowns) and it settled in just fine. 3 weeks later I bought a smaller 2.5" in hopes that they would pair up and the larger would change and develop the male's stripes.
2 nights ago I noticed my larger female hovering around the corner of a rock and I saw the pistol shrimp beneath her.... hmm... She sat there as if on guard just like a watchman goby which was very weird. 5 minutes later she leaves and the smaller one goes and does the same thing.
Fast forward to tonight and I went to move a frag that fell and CRAP she is laying in a hole not moving!!!!! I was about to reach my hand in to see if she was alive then she fluttered a little. I sit back and watch and I see Dozer (my pistol shirmp) scooping away beneath her making this hole under my rock bigger. Being more confused as ever I sit and watch and dozer keeps scooping away and she moves to make more room. She came out for a minute and looked alert and active. Just a few minutes more and she dives back in and lays there in the shrimps hole. Now my other female keeps coming over and is now trying to go in the hole. What the Heck!!!!
Has anyone ever heard of an angel pairing up with a pistol shrimp of any kind?
