So I picked up a 300 96 x 24 x30 and the sump will be a 125 72 x 18 x 24 the sump will be below the tank. the tank has 2 1 1/2 inch drains thinking of a herbie overflow.. So the question is what return pump to run I ordered a dc12000 and looking at a reefflo barracuda what one will be better or what pump do u recommend

How much water do you want to flow through the sump? Do you plan to run one Herbie (two drains) or two Herbies (four drains)? Consider the flow rate of one Herbie at full siphon, I think its 1500gph, if the vertical drop is adequate. What is the vertical drop on the overflow.

I run two Herbies and pushing 900-1000 gph through the sump.

I have had problems with external pumps and now use Sicce in sump return and will never go back. Safe, low heat and good flow.

600-1200gph is all you need to flow.... the barracuda to me would be a horrible choice

From the early 90's I almost always used external pumps due to their efficiency and noise..... however things have changed and unless huge amounts of water need to be moved, a good internal pump is very hard to beat

Sicce's Syncra line is VERY quiet and effecient

Laguna has their line of pumps which is also excellent.... I think Hagen just released their saltwater version

Octopus waterblaster.... the 5000 or 7000 would be plenty, I use the 5000 on my 475g FOWLR

Red Dragon ...

Never played with the new DC pumps... many have had great luck with them and it seems like the bugs have been worked out. Having adjustable flow would be nice....
