i bought this rbta from this new lfs aloing with a bunch of zoa frags and 2 ricordeas, very bright and pretty, this rbta was the healthiest looking along with 2 green bulb tips looking like they were dying. does it look healthy? i set it on a rock i wanted it there, i know they move but it anchored and it moved just alittle, but i just want to make sure i made a good choice, i also have a sebae but it shrunk since ive had it about 1/2 of the size it was when i got it, and the clowns hosted it but it doesnt grow and ive had it for 8 months roughly. what do yall think?

Things to look at when getting a BTA: is the mouth closed, does the foot look good or is it torn, do the tentacles seem sticky to the touch, is its coloration good, does it eat (ie get the LFS to feed it before buying it).

From the look of it, it looks pretty healthy...try giving it a little piece of thawed grocery shrimp or mysis.

im gonna try to feed it, it was about 1 hour before lights out when he was put in, he looked better then the other one, the other one had half the tentacles in, the mouth area has white splotches, regular? his mouth was out but hten he put it in back in when he was comfy, hes moved alittle lower but still a very good spot, i was alittle ****ed on the way the guy handled it, he kinda scrubbed the foot off the rock instead of tickling its foot to release, but it still went straight to the rock super happy.

its tentacles havent been coming out during the day, but at its night its swelled out, it doesnt take food very well, i tried to feed it silverside but a cleaner stole that, and then i gave it some mysis, at least it was able to eat some of that before most of it was stolen right out of its mouth, i just want it to live since its my new and bigger nem :(

What lights do you have and what are your water parameters? Numbers please.

Also the white splotches around the mouth are normal for a bta.

Do not feed silversides, there have been reports of them killing anemones, stick with mysis, krill ect.

nitrates are a bit high, 40-50, ammonia-0 phosphates -o
they were at 0 a couple of weeks ago but i was mass feeding for my mandarin.
1 coral plus ati bulb
1 purple plus ati bulb
2 true actinic ati bulb

did 3 water changes since then and trimmed the chaeto in the fuge so it should be back down here very soon.

really silverside could do that i see people on here feed their nem all the time? idk know that

ive also read on here that some people dont feed their nem at all?

Other than the nitrates everything looks good, i would just give it time to settle in.

I feed my 3 rbtas maybeonce a month, they get most of the food from the light.

Go to the anemone forum and they can explain better as of why silversides are bad.

ah so i shouldnt try to feed it again? i never wash the bottom of my lights, from the salt build up could that be bad?

I wouldnt try feeding it for at least a week, this will give it time to acclimate to the tank. If you do feed, feed small peices.

And yes, you wanna keep the lights clean, a little dirty can really affect the light that gets to the anemone.

When you do try to feed it next, give the shrimp his own piece first so it will not steal from the nem.
