Adding a eggcrate shelf on a rimless tank

I want to add a narrow eggcrate shelf around my over the top pvc return line.
2-1/2" x 20"
This is on a rimless tank.
I want to do this so I can make a screen cover for jumpers.
I want it to sit down so the eggcrate will be flush with the tank rim.
I'm hoping someone knows of somesort of u shaped clip with a short ledge on one side that will fit over the 3/8" thick glass and make a short shelf the eggcrate can sit on.

Once the eggcrate is supported, I can make a clear mesh screen top.

You could get the screen top kits from BRS or Lowes, HD, etc. and just make a cutout for that.

I tried to do the window screen frame, but doing the sharp bend for that corner made the piece very unstable.

Those look like something I could work with.
All I would have to do is bend that one tab out at a 90 degree angle to the main body.
I see that place also has vinyl ones.

Have to check around locally.

I did and I found some that would be perfect, except they all ship from China.
Most shipping estimates were a month out. :(

I did this before w/ the stock clips that came on a solana from current, and they were clear plastic and hardly visible.
You could try them, and I'm sure other tank manufacturers use or make the same thing.
