Due to budget issues and the government being stingy on giving me any refund back, my 135g is not going up yet. That still leaves the 60g in my bedroom that needs to come out, and rather than do the break down and setup and hope the thing doesn't cycle and lose half my stock, i have a 90g sitting here, i'm going to get that going. It will have a medium-heavy bioload, i'm looking for what the best HOB skimmer i could get for it would be and also a middle of the road one for some options. I'd like to hear a few opinions possibly from people who have a certain type as well to get their take on noise level and things of that sort. Right now my 60g has a eshopps that you can hear, but it also does a decent job. Looking for something equal to or better, i'm not sure how the eshopps stacks up against other hob skimmers so any information is helpful to me at this time.

My Eshopps PSK-100H does a wonderful job on my heavily stocked 46 bowfront. The noise level is pretty minimal if you run the sicce pump on the skimmer. All HOBs have a noticable hum to them especially as the pump ages.

I had a reef octopus bh-1000 on a 72g and it worked great. The bh-2000 might be perfect for the 90g.

i'm thinking the bh200 might be the way to go.

I would go with the BH2000. I have one on my 90 reef with heavy fish load and it does a good job at skimming.

Thanks for the replies, bh2000 it is, though that deltec mce600 looks like a beast.

the deltec is better...

I can't argue with the deltec being better, but the reef octo is in my price range at this time, my budget is about $150-200, its slightly over, but is my best option at this time.

You wont regret getting the 2000, the surface skimming feature on it is an added bonus

didn't even notice that, that should help nicely

Bh2000. Skims great on my 120g - quiet and easy to clean out. I don't run a sump, and it keeps up like a champ.

I am just throwing out an opinion. I have owned a few hob skimmers and hate them all. I have had a few episodes of them starting a siphon that ended with a mess on the floor. I would avoid them.

i've had that once with my current eshopps, due to some clogging, i regularly clean them once a month now and it hasn't happened again. I wish i could go with a sump style but no sump or budget for drilling the tank and adding one. I could go with the hang on style overflow but i've also heard people say they work perfectly and others say they had a few issues, its a toss up with them.

my plan is to eventually add a overflow tube onto the hob skimmer in case this does happen, and have it drain into a bucket on the chance that this occurs.
