So, here's my candycane over 3 years ago when I first bought it.

It was like this a month ago. Sorry for the photo, had to crop it from an FTS to just feature the candy cane.

Came down to do a water change, and here it has spontaneously fragged off a third of itself. What the hey? Do they do that??

Basically they do as they polyps calcify and get bigger they start to create pressure at the base to the point where stress just breaks it. It's nothing to worry about, as it's actually just a sign of good growth of the colony.

I had one drop a head in slow motion once - took several days and looked like chewing gum stretching out.

This is a form of Budding, that many LPS use to self propagate.

You cannot complain about that growth plus a couple of ten headed frags.

Thanks, guys. I thought there was something wrong. Good to know it happens normally.

Yup, gonna take that spontaneous frag to the LFS for credit.
