I am getting a 24x24x24 cube tank this weekend, and have not decided on a pump. It is 60 gallons, will be a seahorse tank, with a few safe corals. I am going with the maxspect razor light.

My lfs says I should go with a mag 7, but I hear they are loud and non-efficient. I would like to get 10x overturn an hour, so need 600 gph after head pressure.

I know the sicci pumps are quiet, and adjustable, so I could get my 10x overturn, and control gurgling etc.

Any other suggestions out there for this tank, I would appreciate.

Thanks

A 600 gallon turnover rate in a 60 gl seahorse tank probably would be a bad idea. Seahorses require a very low flow as they are not good swimmers. You may want to rethink and go with a lower flow rate. Just a suggestion.

Thanks for your suggestion, Mark. Though, that is what I initially thought, however after speaking to a seahorse breeder, who I happen to find very well versed in seahorse, he suggested 10x overturn. He states you do not want a direct current of 10x, so to have multiple return pipes to divide out the flow.

I am thinking the mag 7 now, which after the accounted head pressure is around 500 gph.

Can anyone tell me about the mag 7 such as noise and or reliability.? Is there a better pump at that price point to accomplish the same goal?

Thanks

I do have several Mag pumps a 3, 7, 9, and a 18 All are very reliable, as to noise they are not as loud as my skimmer pump a waterblaster. but then again my sump is in the basement. The quietest pump I have is on my ca reactor its an Ehime. dead sielent

If you want quieter..the sicce syncra silent series are literally "silent". That's my suggestion. Otherwise, a DC pump will do the trick too.

DC pump!

mine is very quiet

had it for a couple years now with no issues (DC3000 1st gen)

dont think they make the 3000 anymore but my experience with the DC pump has been great so far.

Tunze silence pumps are very quiet as well. I have a 1073.02 on my 90 and it is great. Lots of flow, adjustable, and almost silent.

You could go with tunze or eheim,I used to have an eheim and it was pretty quiet compared to the danner pumps
