My H. chrysus is about 3" long and has recently started changing colors. I expected him to mature but I thought the striping on the head area was just orange an yellow. He has those colors but is getting some green as well. Is that normal coloration for this species?

Perfectly normal for a terminal male.

Not mine, but here is an example.

Whoa cool, I hope mine does that someday!

Side note... terminal male made me think the fish was doomed to die at first!

We have a pair of H. chrysus and our male looks like that.. The coloration is absolutely stunning. We bought a smaller juvi, that had none of those markings had the extra black spots, and they have lived together in harmony for a while now. This is a great fish to pair up, fun to watch them hunt together.
