Anyone make one? My tank is fairly young and skimmer is ripping out some nasty stuff. Need to drain it into a larger container but need to control the stink.

sure..thats simple. a milk jug.. a 2L bottle.. anything your wife won't yell at you for when it smells/looks like a donkey took a dump in it ;)

Collecting is easy. De-smellification is the variable I'm looking to control.

even easier, add a tablespoon of kalk to the waste collector, no more stink.

most "skimmate" containers feature a small chamber of activated carbon that serves as a vent hole.

I can't believe how well this worked. 10 years in the hobby, still learnin'. The stench has never been an issue before but there is a confluence of circumstances that lead to it. New tank. New skimmer. New, fairly closed stand. Minimal air movement under stand (fans ordered). Really created a jungle like atmosphere under there. Couple scoops of baking soda, stench neutralized.

I've posted this in other threads so sorry in advance if you've already seen it
------------------------
I built one for about $15. It is hooked up to my APEX for skimmer control but could easily be made from a slightly modified ATO.

items:

cereal container = $3.50
float valve = $6.00
misc pvc parts = $4.00

total cost under $15.00

the inlet is a tubing connector that threads into a 1/2" pvc coupling that is glued to the top
the vent is made from some 1 1/2" pvc parts to allow for threading off the vent, removing the top and placing a bag of carbon inside the vent
the float valve was attached by drilling and tapping a standard 1/8" NPT hole for threading the float valve to
