I just purchased a maxima clam but I'm now reading material that's questioning my sand bed placement. I'm running to kessil a360we with 4 t5s, 2 blue plus, 1 purple plus and 1 coral plus. I run them with LET ballasts so I'm sure light isnt a problem. Can I keep him on the sandbed?

Ill recommend to use a par meter and place the clam were the reading is at 200 ( I believe thats what they require). What are your tank dimensions?

+1 on recommendation above. I keep my Maxima clams on sand but I get 250-300 PAR there.

I dont see how I can't have good par everywhere with this light setup . Ive had to move some sps to the bottom of the tank because of bleaching until I set some of my lights at 50%

Whatever fwiw means...
So should I put him on a rock on the sand bed?

"for what its worth" lol. Yeah I would think thats better than on just sand. Don't get me wrong, i started keeping them on the sand bed too, but over the years there is less stressed when the little guys have their foot firmly attached to something. Baby maximas (under two inches) almost always die if moved or move on their own and Ive had alot do so in the sand. After the eunice ate my tank, I've started restocking and have had two little guys and a couple bigger clams and the rock placement has made them bulletproof (knock on wood)

I keep my baby maximas on rocks. I have an adult on the sand but I have a large piece of flat plug underneath the "foot" of the clam.

How big of a rock? Just basically a plate for attachment? And this guy is 4-5 inches

Id say you'll be around the 200par mark right under the kessil
