My hydrometer broke, just looking for a simple quick answer. I'm guessing around 1.011ish? Enough to startup a new tank and let some bacteria establish in dry sand I'd imagine?

Yes, but you can't add any live rock till your salinity is right. The life in the rock (not the bactira) will die. You could add Dr Tim's one and only or somthing similar. You could add dry rock!!.

If the SG turns out to be 1.011, that's probably too low for any practical purposes. I suspect that number is about right, but I don't know how Kent rates their salt products.

this will be a fish only system so I'm am planning on keeping the salinity low, at around 1.011. I just don't have a hydrometer and was going to use dry sand and sponges and let the tank cycle for around 2-3 months.

Why are you keeping the salinity that low? you just going to stress the fish?

FWIW, I would target SG 1.0264 for a fish-only system or a reef.
