Hi everyone, I have been running an Aqua One tank with an enclosed cover rather successfully for the past 12 months. It has the standard impeller driven trickle filter installed with ceramic bio noodles and am looking to install a protein skimmer.
My question is... does the protein skimmer replace the need for the trickle filter setup or is it best to run both the skimmer and the TF together?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Brett

Should have said this is a Marine FOWLR tank

You should think of removing the trickle system. If you lose power and it dries up it can start a cycle all over again. Also ditirus gets stuck in it as it becomes a giant mess

thanks Hijinks, should I be looking at changing to a canister filter or is it not necessary when running a Protein skimmer? Just trying to get my head around all this!

No run a skimmer. You need to keep a canister filter very clean or it will be a nitrate factory

I thought canister filters where a no no for any type of tank

Fishrfriends268 I'm starting to get that impression, going to steer clear of a canister all together
