I'm having a debate with a friend of mine about whether one can use an algal turf scrubber as the sole major filtration on a successful SPS tank. I'd be curious to see photos of tanks run with a scrubber but no skimmer (GFO, GAC okay). Simply stating 'yes' without accompanying photographic evidence will be uncompelling :)

My personal bias on this is that the ATS is an excellent form of filtration as a complement to a skimmer, but not as a replacement for.

Really, none? :) Appears I may 'win' the argument.

I spoke to Lend Sy about his miracle mud system and he also recommended that the combination of his mud/algae system with 6 hours of skimmer per day showed best results for a SPS tank.

Don't believe he runs an ATS though.

No I understand that was just throwing a similar alternative of nutrient export out there. I don't believe a skimmer is necessary either but think without one you would need to be more meticulous with husbandry such as water changes and reasonable stocking.
