Can a bulkhead be put on a 32 gallon Brute pail effectively since the pail is curved?

Thanks,
Ken

I've had better luck with Uniseals, depending on what you're looking to do.

Not sure about a bulkhead, but you can use uniseals. Bulk Reef Supply has them.

I put one half inch bulkheads on a set of four regular old garbage cans and connected them with eheim 25/39 mm hose to use as a reservoir for ro/di water. Been using them for at least a year now. Don't see why brutes would be any different and should be a heck of a lot more durable.

I have a 3/4" bulkhead on a "tiny" 10 gallon Brute that holds my RODI water. There's quite a bit of curve to the Brute but I've had zero problems with it.

The bulkhead I installed on my brute 44 gallon leaked after a couple months. I switched to a uniseal and have had no problems yet.

It it's flat or flexible bulkheads will work, uniseals work on curves better than a bulkhead.

I actually have a Uniseal on two Brute containers (one for saltwater and one for RO) and I wouldn't say that either is a great seal. That's why I was asking about the bulkhead.

Maybe I can put the container on something where I can still have room to put the bulkhead on the bottom where is is flat.

That is what I do. just build a platform about 8" high on which to put the container (make sure it can hold the weight) and then plumb the bulkhead out through the bottom. FWIW, I always use a little silicone sealant when putting bukheads into plastic.

Hey Ken, I have used the regualr bulkheads on my brute, but after a while it did crack. I ended up ordering a schedule 80, and it has been fine ever since. But it does seem that uniseals are the popular option.

I tried a uniseal the first time and I guess I made the hole a tiny bit to big, because it leaked.
So I went with a bulkhead fitting and it's been working ever since.

I've found that bulkheads work fine since Brutes are fairly flexible. Stay a bit above the bottom though otherwise it may not be able to flex as easily. Uniseals work great if the hole is not too big. They seem to have very little margin for error though.

The bulkhead worked perfectly!

Anybody try it on the smaller/thinner brutes like the 20g ?

I would think it would work. After doing mine, the the fact that the container is curved is a non issue. Once you tighten down the nut, the plastic will flatten out where the bullhead is.

Btw, I ended up putting the bulkhead on the side rather than the bottom.

I just used duct tape to hold the quarter turn on. No need for a bulk head. Duct tape fixes everything.lol
