Blake's IM Nuvo AIO Sr-60 Build!
After the second delivery (First one came shattered in a million pieces), my IM nuvo sr-60 has finally arrived!!!!! I really dont know what i am going to do with this tank. It may be SPS dominant, or may be a full blown softy/lps tank i just have not decided, but will have plenty of time to think about it while this bad boy is cycling.

My equipment is as follows:

Innovative Marine Nuvo Sr-60 rimless shallow reef
Aquatic life 3w cree LED Reef Fixture (love this light so much)
Apex lite controller w/ added lab grade PH probe
2 vortech MP10es
1 Cadlights PLS50 Protein Skimmer
AIO IM minimax reactor (midsize) - i dont have this running yet, but will probably run bio pellets and/or GFO
60 lbs of Fiji Pink live sand
42 lbs of totaka and bali live rock

As for aquascaping i really have no great expertise in this area so if you have any ideas, please let me know them, i am open to all suggestions! Thanks or looking and i look forward to updating as this tank progresses along!

I like the rock work. Lots of sand and seems like you made a bunch of space on different levels of the water column for coral placement

thank you, tank is still cycling on day 14 or so. parameters are looking solid. will probably add my CUC in 10-14 days as the diatoms are fading and hair algae is starting to take over.

ammonia: 0
nitrite: .25
nitrate 10

One thing i will note is how impressed i am with the cadlights pls50, it is skimming incredibly will with little to no micro bubbles. really loving this skimmer.

I have not thought about it as of yet. Just looked up their website for the first time a few minutes ago. How is this rock different from my LFS live rock? I am definitely interested, just need to learn a little more about it, so any info you have would be great!

never mind, just found a great thread on TBS here on RC. Will probably order some, would be cool to have some rock from the gulf of mexico, since i spend so much time in it! thanks for the info.

So tank has been up for almost a month and the cycle was quick with only a few nitrite and ammonia spikes. I have really liked this tank (only wish i got the sr-120!) so far and have had zero problems with it to date. I recently added a few corals and clowns inn and everything is doing wonderful so far. Here are a few shots if yall want to take a look.

Img must be hosted on a website like photobucket.com

If using photobucket just copy the "img" contents into the post such as:

http://i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab190/crimsonoa/CameraZOOM-20140329160957816_zpshwj9ygkv.jpg

For thumb you can do the same but you have to go into "update link options" to show the thumb link option:

Really interested in this thread.
Want a nuvo or fusion for our living room. My wife thinks three tanks is enough. Four sounds perfect to me.

LOL. I think you are right. I haver added a few fish and definitely want to add a flame angel, love those fish. Also added a leather today and an orange plate coral. Will update pics tonight! Nothing but positive things to say about this tank so far.

Very, very nice! Love your variety of corals! I love GSP's as well.

Qq; is the water level in display portion of the tank adjustable? Reason I ask is because I am heavily considering purchase of a IM tank.

Not really, you can raise it about an inch from the top but then the water just sort of floats in the overflow instead of draining into it.... if that makes sense. I really wish it was higher, but when i have my vortechs on high short pulse mode, i am then glad the water level is where its at or i would have some wet floors! So far so good, this is a solid built tank and I am having a blast buying stuff for it haha.

Time for a quick update.

First question, has anyone ever had a mega problem with electric blue hermit crabs making themselves at home on your acropora? I have two hermit crabs who have permanently moved in to my SPS corals. If i move them, they ate literally hanging out 10 minutes later back in the same space!! Will this habit harm my SPS corals?

twin spot goby hanging out by the orange plate coral

new torch coral, not very colorful but the tips are starting to green up a little. For $30, not too shabby of a buy!

FTS so excited to see everything grow out. Just glued a piece of GSP to the back to get a nice green waving grassy background scenery!
http://i1351.photobucket.com/albums/p782/danablakefoster/DSC_0626_zps78741fb6.jpg (http://s1351.photobucket.com/user/danablakefoster/media/DSC_0626_zps78741fb6.jpg.html)
nothing better than working on your reef tank while watching the Master! (although i really wish tiger was in it)

My biggest struggle is not maintaining my levels, it is having the patience to let everything grow out and not adding 5 corals a week!!! So addicting, but i know many of you are familiar with this feeling. I will probably add one more fish, debating between a few different gobies or a cardinal of some sort.

Current levels are
nitrate: 5
nitrite: 0
ammonia: 0
Calcium: 440
MG: 1300
Alkalinity: Have not measured it this week.

Hey Blake... I was talking to a guy at an LFS yesterday, he sells Nuvo's a lot. I asked him about raising the waterline.

He mentioned taking a flat piece of acrylic, about the size of the overflow grates, drill a hole or two in it and use a pair of plastic bolts/wing nuts to secure the acrylic plate over a bottom fraction of the overflow grates. Raise it a bit for a higher waterline. Lower, or remove it for a lower waterline.

Just in case you or anyone else was interested and hadn't thought of the idea. Love your tank btw!

Yes I do, sorry i have been working in Mississippi this past week which has caused me some serious slacking on updating this thread! So basically, i have added some new fish and about 7-8 new corals over the past few weeks. I was really hesitant as this is my first AIO tank, but everything is working wonderfully right now. Only thing i am now unsure of is my cadlights skimmer, it goes bonkers when the ATO kicks in and often overfills the skimmer cup which is driving me nuts. Anyone know of any good skimmers for the IM nuvo SR-60? Here are some pics for yall. Please let me know what you think or if you have any ideas for the tank, i am always listening.

As for the filter baskets, i just have 2 filter socks right now, but have a media basket on the way from marine depot. I will probably use a sponge on the top, then will probably take the shelves out and make a big ole refugium with LR and Cheato. I am running one reactor right now with bio pellets and plan to run another with either carbon or GFO.

Thank you! Love the IM tanks so far. Yeah, I have the 34inch Aquatic life fixture and have had no problems with it so far. Its my first dive into LED's so im excited to see the growth over the next year. In my media reactor i have two little fish's NPX bio pellets. Hard to tell, but i think they are working well, i've had slim to no trouble with nitrates thus far. As far as filtration goes i am running a filter sock on the left side and on the right i am running a media basket with poly filter, chemipure elite, and cheato.

I'll post some more pics today as a lot has changed over the last few weeks!

Added a few more corals to my 60 gallon IM rimless. Hope you enjoy! Got an amazing toxic green frogspawn that came in through reef-a-polooza. My male clown is now hosting it over the GBTA which it was previously hosting. Added a few acro frags and some different types of Euphyllia.

new zoa's. my acans on the right are not doing very well and i cannot figure out why. I think my tank may be too high flow for them as all my SPS is thriving.

I'm thinking about getting one of these. I'm in-between the SR-60 and Deep Blue 57G rimless then adding a sump etc etc.

I too live in an apartment (in Brooklyn) and have limited space, and the AIO units are very appealing.

I also hear the DB 57G are relatively fragile. The fish store I'm thinking of purchasing one through won't send it regular mail, he will only deliver it to me personally.

I'm thinking that as I have to move usually every other year that this might be a better choice.

Do you have any insight into how much easier/harder this unit would be to move than a typical sump setup?

How do you like the light?

i absolutely love the aquaticlife 3w cree led fixture. So many programming options and it is super user friendly. Can't really say anything growth wise since its only been 2-3 months, but hoping for good things!

I dont see any reason as to why this fixture would be tough to move. Me and my old man moved it into the house and it was not bad at all. The tank shipped from CA to FL (my place) safely the second time around. Cant say enough good things about this tank, looks very sleek and for a first timer in the AIO arena, i am very happy with it!

And for anyone wanting to know about skimmers for the Nuvo series.....

I recently repalced my cadlights pls50 with an aquamax HOB skimmer and it is night and day. The aqua max outperforms the cadlights 3x over. Keep in mind, you need to leave 4 inches from the back of your tank to the wall to fit it in.

Is that including the back portion? How wide is the back portion?

No that is without back portion. The sump (back portion) is 6 inches wide. I want to say that makes it 15 gallons.

Thank you! It's a great size tank. After breaking down my 125g i was nervous about doing a 60g but with the width of the tank, there is plenty of room to cram it with all the beautiful corals you want (or at least i want)

Anyone know of any good skimmers for the IM nuvo SR-60?

I've been using a Tunze 9004 in my SR-60 since the beginning of March and it fits and works perfectly. I get about a half cup of nice skimmate every 2-3 days with no issues.

Blake, great looking tank! How do u like the skimmer? Been thinking of tanking the plunge on an IM mini 30g setup and am wanting to use this skimmer if I decide to go with that tank.

The aquamax hob skimmer is a beast. Couldnt be happier. The cadlights was ok, just found myself tinkering with it on a daily basis due to overflow and water level issues. The Aquamax skimmer JUST WORKS. I empty it every 3 days or so and that is all i have to do. Highly recommend.

Not on here but I do have one on AquaticLog. It was doing great until we had a catastrophic heater failure a little over a month ago that killed all our fish and nearly all our SPS corals. It's finally starting to look close to the way it did.

Here's what it looks like right now.

By the way, how do you like having the two MO10s on yours? I've been thinking about adding another but wasn't sure how well it work.

AH! So sorry to hear that, heaters are what worry me most in this hobby. I have been really lucky over the years but i really really hate to hear that man. As far as the MP10's go, i absolutely love having 2 of them in my tank as it is getting more and more SPS dominant. I have them at about 50% on eco mode and my corals are happy and thriving. However, if you have Acans, they are the only coral that do not seem to do well with the intense flow. I cannot find a calm spot in the tank to put them. Good luck with your heater issue, hope you rebuild even better this time.

Hey guys,

Not a whole lot of updates, tank is still going along with minimal problems. My worst problem so far is my nitrates are hanging around 5, but i dont see it affecting anything too bad. I am usually comfortable keeping them 0-5, a sterile tank can sometimes be a bad thing a wise man once said. Here are a few pics, hope you enjoy!

Blake, finally got my tank and its cycling. How do you like the 2 MP10s? do you think i will be able to get away with one? I do want to get some SPS and my aquascape has a lot of flow. I have a build thread on R2R but I will start one here as well. thanks

In my opinion I love the 2 mp10's. My tank has extremely high flow and I have each my10 running at about 50%. With that being said, I think you can definitely get away with running 1 mp10. If its not enough, you can always add another!

here are a few updates on the tank! Everything is going pretty well, except for some cyano creeping up in the front left of the tank. Trying to hold off dosing any chemi-clean or anything of that nature.

...As far as filtration goes i am running a filter sock on the left side and on the right i am running a media basket with poly filter, chemipure elite, and cheato.

Blake, are you still running this filtration setup? I'm cycling my SR60 at the moment with the standard filter socks. I'm thinking of replacing the one side with a IM media basket, some macro algae and an Aqua Gadget Refugium LED. Not sure about the other side, looking for ideas at the moment. I really don't like those socks.
