Hello. I have been running my Tank for a little over 2years now and I really like the look of the tank in my living room but I can't live with the cabinet space. My latest upgrade has me hating my tank.

I currently run a Aqueon proflex 3 sump and I had to physically break it last Monday because I upgraded my skimmer. For the past 2 years I ran the middle compartment as refugium and a SWC 160 skimmer with a Eheim 1260 return in the last compartment. I picked up a Bubble king mini 180 last week and it didn't fit into the sump. The sump couldn't removed without breaking down the tank so the only choice to use the skimmer was to break the middle water retaining wall so I could fit the skimmer. I was able to remove the plastic with some elbow grease but the floor of the sump has large pieces sticking up so the skimmer doesn't fit level. The water retaining wall was regulating the height so with it removed the water falling from the return sounds like a waterfall in my living room. I am going to break it down and having a new stand and canopy made.

Current equipment list.
Reefkoi evolution 200w 20k non dimmable
Aqueon proflex 3
Bubble king mini 180
2 Ecotech MP40
Apex controller
Eheim 1260 return pump

Here is the current stand and canopy, the canopy is just a stand flipped upside down

My dad's neighbor is a cabinet maker and he's coming over for dimensions this week. The stand is going to be 30 inches tall and I am undecided on my sump set up. Here is what I am aiming for

the link to this set up is from a different forum so I can't post here,

I have a few questions.

1. Can you think of any downside to the stand?

2. I am going to place all the livestock in a 100 gallon rubbermaid stock tank . Is it a bad idea to place a large toadstool leather in the holding tank? I am scared of it being stressed and releasing toxins in the tank.

3. I hate the sound of the water splashing in the sump from the return line. I am looking make this as silent as possible. What would you suggest?

I just moved my sump to the basement, now my tank is dead silent. Not to mention I could now go with a bigger sump, plenty of space to move and work on things, and I don't have to get on my knees to do anything. All it took was a bigger return pump to handle the additional head, some additional hose, and the tank for the sump.

On a separate note..........check out this thread for more corner tanks =

It might be astectically pleasing to build a matching flush conopy to the ceiling. That would help keep the eye focused on the display and not the light spilling out from above. As for noise, plumbing the drain to dump into a mesh filter sock, set just above the sump water level, can disperse the waterfall sound. A lining of styrofoam insulation board will reduce noise too.

I appreciate the feedback. I have been trolling the corner reef club forum for sometime now lol. Secondsbest, would you elaborate. Do you have any pics for this?

Sorry no pics. I'm imagining a quarter slice of a column that goes from the floor to the ceiling. The combined height of the stand and tank should be no more than chest height for easy maintenance; otherwise, you will need a step stool to reach the bottom of the tank. The tank can be placed anywhere from top to bottom, but for athstecics, I'm thinking something like a 3/2/3 ratio of the stand, tank, top. This gives you a 3 foot stand, 2 foot tank, and 3 foot top, and it will be ok to maintain if you're about 6 foot tall and 8 foot ceiling. Matching doors on the top and stand would tie it together. A cardboard mockup can give you an idea of how it will really look in your room with your existing furnishings. You could buy a roll of aquarium background to mock the position of the tank on the cardboard.

+1 to @Secondsbest

my tank is not corner but same concept with matching doors below and above. I spent considerable time deciding do I match to the entertainment ctr (up to the 9' ceiling) or stop at 8ft for the 3'/2' (tank height)/ 3' formula. Decided that going all the way to the ceiling (9') would make the tank stand look top heavy.

I am 5'7" and I have to use a 3 step ladder to clean the tank.

my 0.02, might help you out.

Got a tank from Aquavim, it is slightly higher stand, but it brings the aquarium at a better angle to look at it both when your are standing or sitting IMO.

The stand also has a a lip that covers the front at the bottom so you don't see the sand bed.

Downside as mentioned above is I need a stand to reach into the tank. Actually I need a four step ladder to make it to the bottom lol.
