Measuring Sump Baffles

is there a science to how tall to make them? or do you usually measure the height to your protein skimmers needs?

i have a standard 29g sump i'm trying to figure how tall i should make the baffles.

I like to keep a 20% free head space above my highest baffle for over flow and other issues. So if the tank is 12" high for example my highest baffle would be 9". That maybe conservative but I also have never had to mop up water.

For your protein skimmer you can make a stand to adjust it to the proper height.
