View Full Version : Help, reddish brown stringy algea, corals or fish haven't been affected just looks ug

Hey guys was just wondering if anyone can help, tank around 2 n a half months old n just this week my tank has started growing this brown stuff, any idea what it is?

Also having a algea bloom, I doing weekly water changes n have been having carbon n fluval clear max (phosphate remover) but took it out Sunday n now this has all grown

It is cyanobacteria. While common in new tanks, increased water flow and reduced nitrates and phosphates will help limit its growth.

Cyanbacteria! What food do you feed and if frozen thaw and rinse first? Nutrient control and more water movement to stop it from taking hold , siphon out and try to clean out algea.

It's frozen brine shrimp, I'll rinse it first cheers :) is it hard to remove? Would carbon n some phos guard help aswell

Randy Holmes Farley showed that rinsing the shrimp isn't necessary. The amount of phosphate in the ice is insignificant compared to the actual shrimp.
