I am setting up a75 gal reef tank with about 100 lbs of rock and 50 lbs of sand
The stand that I purchased from all outward appearances looks fine but it does not have a conventional top. It has the 4 sides with 2 cross sections tying the front to the back. It looks manufactured but out of just lack of knowledge I need your views please.

You're talking the top of the stand that the tank sits on? In other words, if you had the tank on the stand and reached up underneath, you could touch the bottom glass of the tank? If so, that's how just about everyone builds stands for rimmed tanks. Rimmed tanks only need support along the edges so an open top like that is fine. Acrylic or rimless tanks, you'll want even support across the bottom.

Hard to say 100% without seeing but there are no problems with that design without a top. As long as everything's level the bottom of the glass never touches the stand anyways. I have a 29 gal tank on a stand built just like that. If it would make you feel better you could always just slap a piece of plywood on top but theres really no need. Just make sure all the edges of your aquarium the whole way around are touching the outside wood and you will be good.
