So just set up new sump with hob overflow. Well my tank was just overflowing I assume the overflow stopped pulling and sump kept returning how to I ensure this doesnt happen again

Which Overflow and pump? Did it lose siphon? Is the return pump behind a baffle? If so, keep the water in the return low enough so it can'toOverflow the display.

im assuming that it just lost siphon since the hob box is rated much higher then my return pump. im running a mag drive 7.0(700gph) with a cpr cs102(1200gph) and i have the proflex 3 sump

Do you keep an Aqualifter on the nipple on top? That will help keep air out of it and help siphon not break.
