LED in canopy

I am starting a 180 reef and have Hydra 52's ready. My question is can I mount these in a canopy if I leave an airspace at the top? I do not want to overheat the LED's but do not like open lights

My old boss just cut holes in the top of his canopy and mounted them to the top of it. So the top of the LED's stuck out of the top, but he also has a shorter canopy so he wanted to get them further off of the water.
