I just bought a SunPod (used, of course) that I got a great deal on - figure it is a good way to start with MH on a less expensive basis. It is the 70W 16.5 inch once but I just realized it needs a piece of replacement glass that Current USA no longer makes. Any suggestions on what type of glass it is (UV, thickness, etc.) and how big it should be? Thanks!

I believe 1/8 inch glass will suffice but that it also needs to be tempered - at least, that is what I was told a few years ago when I had to replace a piece of glass for a MH light.

+1 I don't know the exact measurements and don't have a sunpod anymore but just measure the opening, the distance between the screws so the can drill holes there, and have it tempered after cut and drilled.

Is it a DE bulb or Mogul base?
I think DE bulbs need UV filtering glass as a lens.

Thanks for the answers...it is a DE bulb so I think it needs to be tempered and UV. I just don't know the thickness (1/8 inch?) or the dimensions...does it go much past the holes in the corners?

Do you have a pic of the fixture?

1/8" should be fine and regular tempered glass is all you need as UV filter.

I don't have a pic but it is a sunpod 1058. The dimensions I am measuring seem to be about 8.5 x 5.5. The dilemma I have is that no one I have found locally can temper a piece that small (something about the rollers in the oven that it will fall through) and glass cannot be cut after it is tempered...ugh!

You know what, I have an old DE MH light that I scavenged for parts a while back and I think I may have a couple of the glass lenses sitting around. I think they may be in the 8x5 inch range, but would have to check when I get home from a business trip late tomorrow night.

I did a quick search of Current USA Sunpod replacement parts and didn't have any trouble finding the glass. Sounds easier than making your own

I'm lazy and not particularly internet savvy, OK?

As it turns out, it's for the 150/250w. That's all I got. Like I said, I'm lazy. It's out there somewhere in the great big web universe, probably

OK.
At least you're honest. That's a good thing!

According to this replacement parts list from Current USA the glass is the same for all wattages (1058 is the 70w Sunpod part number). Maybe I'm not so lazy after all.

thanks again for info - I contacted Current USA and they said they don't make the size needed anymore. Wondering if anyone has any of the newer models that the glass supposedly fits all of so I can get the measurements please?
