150 gallon return pump/skimmer question

So I just picked up this tank and am looking for a pump. The dimensions are 72x15x30 if I remember correctly. I was looking at some of the dc pumps but there's not that much info on them. I have a mag 9.5 on my 55 right now. What's a good gph to shoot for?

Also I have a asm g1 right now but its super noisy. Recommendations for a protein skimmer for the new tank?

My tank is just a pinch bigger. I'm running 1800gph, and just split why two returns into four nozzles. I'm really liking the flow at this point, with two tunze powerheads at each end of tank...

Return pump is determined by pump gph @ head height (all pumps will have a chart), how much GPH your DRAIN will flow, also the "sump turnover" you want.
my guess is that you could prob use your existing Mag9.5.

Whats the height from return pump to return outlet?
What size pipe do you have for your drain.
What type of drain system (hang on overflow, durso, Herbie, Bean)

On your ASM skimmer - do you have a silencer? if not make one and it will be 90% quieter.

I think the head height will be right around 5 feet. Since the pump will be right underneath the tank and will just have to pump to the top.
Its a single corner overflow with a hole in the bottom side wall. Its 1 inch I think. Ill have to double check.

On the asm it seems like the pump itself is noisy. I bought a new pump and its also noisy. Good thing marine depot has a 60 return policy

For sump turnover it seems like anything 10x to 100x is ok?

Using the following input parameters

Gallons per Hour = 600
Drain and Overflow sizes are calculated as

Recommended minimum drain pipe diameter = 1.01 inches
Recommended minimum linear overflow size = 9 inches

I would recommend reading up on Herbie, and Bean Animal drain systems.

I dont know if I could put any drain system on unless I drill a whole separate overflow. Theres just no room in that overflow.

So it seems like the mag 9.5 could work? But could anyone chip in on a more energy efficient pump?

I have the Jebao DC9000 and I like it a lot so far. light humming but it ramps up slowly and is adjustable so when I hook up the chiller I just up the power and all set... It pulls 70watts at full power. It is rated at 2,400 GPH.
I have it at 50% so I probably use 'bout 50W.

Most of us are doing about 5x turnover on sump return pump, and the rest of the flow in tank via PH's or loop, 30-40x turnover for mixed, higher for sps dominant.
If you want quiet and efficient, and trouble free you can't beat an eheim, a 1262 would be my choice.
For a skimmer I'd be looking at reeefocto's

It's very new still... Since February I believe.
