The side of my tank had a whitish coating on the acrylic. Its my first acrylic tank and I thought that I might have scratched the heck out of it or something. It wasn't until I tried out the scraper from the meeting that I realized it was some kind of deposit. It had no color other than whiteish gray. Was it coralline ?

Yes quite possibly it was a grey coralline. I always get it starting green or grey before purple or red

Its interesting that that's the only place any was growing.

Could be a mineral deposit (calcium), too.

I've seen coraline turn white when its exposed to air for too long, is it at the top of your tank where water drains down during a water change? If not its normal to have different colored coraline algae since every system is unique!

I'm going to guess it was gray coralline. Not an attractive addition
