DR Pepper syrup plastic jug for ATO

I have a 15 gal HPDE jug that had DR pepper syrup in it, I have soaked with viniger water and the smell of Dr Peper still remains.Do you think its safe to use for ATO water? How should I have cleaned it. I am afaid to use with the oder still present. What do you think

I'd let it air out for awhile and then re-rinse. If you can smell it chances are it is volatile enough to diffuse into the air by itself over time. Also the chemicals in that trace of amount may not all that bad.

I ran into the same thing with my ato container (some fancy cat-litter). Worked just fine after sitting around for a week w/ some rinsing.

Thanks Its a HDPE jug with #2 in triange. I will try letting it sit outside and re rinse

Might even grab a big box of arm&Hammer baking soda and let that soak in some water too. Slosh it around occasionally... Stuff's cheap.
