I have an abundance of hair algae on the back wall and micro bubbles all over the tank. I am wondering what i can do about it. None of it seems to be bothering my inhabitants. however it is unsightly. Currently i am growing caulerpa prolifera, and brachypus so i am wondering what i need to do to get this issue under control? or should i just get a blenny trim a bit and move on?

Specs

20 gal
jebao wp 10 power head

2 head duncan

pink and green sinularia
nuclear green mushroom
cabbage coral some colt coral
yellow polyps
pulsing xenia
anthelia

2 true percs
1 bengai cardinal
1 hector goby

ammonia: 0
nitrate: 0
phosphate: 0

dunno what i'm doing wrong but my clowns are playing in it so how bad is it?
i obviously can't take all the food out of the tank because i still want my prolifera and brachypus to grow nicely!

I'll post more current pics here soon these are from a week ago before the hair algae was multiple inches long!

Scrape it all off and use a net to catch it all and remove it, get as much as you can out. Keep physically removing it until you can figure out whats feeding it or until your caulerpa can out perform it on nutrient export.

Looks like you need to increase the amount your water surface is breaking also. Looks like you have a pretty good film build up, are you running a skimmer, carbon, or phosphate remover?

No, no, and no alb. My hob system was kicking micro bubbles in

Could maybe set it to a timer and have it turn on only at night when the lights are out. Since you want other algae to grow I would say manual removal until your other macros can out compete it, a blenny couldn't hurt either, plus they are cool fish.

dont fix it with a fish that will only add to the problem i struggled with that for a long long time the water can be better aerated for start maybe add another powerhead but the main 2 questions i have (i think i know the answer to #2) 1.are you overfeeding? with a fishlload so lite its very easy to (also i see nooo sign of clean up crew) and #2. whats your water situation? are you using ro water?

Protein skimmer will do wonders for this system. Just because your levels of waste are low, doesn't mean that you're not producing them. It means your algae is doing an efficient job of using them (Which is a good thing for the organisms, but not so much for asthetics). you also have a good size of Calerupa sp. in the tank. This species of macro algae can sexually reproduce, releasing thousands of gametes in the water that will too break down and add to the waste in which your hair algae will consume. Skimming will take care of these issues. Do not use carbon. This will pull out vital chemicals needed in nano tanks. Like alb said, more flow will certainly help.

TCW also has good points.
