I've been doing research on this and some websites make it out to be a crazy ordeal and ordering all these pods from various locations. My question is couldn't you just take a smaller piece of live rock from my DT put it into another smaller tank with aeration maybe a little bit of chaeto and feed live plankton crushed flake food and have a pod factory?

sure you can do that.

Pods are easy you could even use a 2 liter bottle just make sure you change some of the water weekly and feed little.

I've tried culturing in a single ten gallon tank, and in a series of bottles. I found it easier and more productive in the bottles. Having the ability to start a culture over allows you to keep production up.

Is there a good thread on a step by step method for this? I would love to know, thanks!

i was previously culturing pods in one of those big pretzel jugs from costco, and phyto in 2 liter pop bottles.

it's not that hard if you get a good seed culture.

i also got myself a set of sieves and a rotifer screen from brine shrimp direct to make straining them out easier.

these are good step by steps for pods:
