Skimmer Overflowing at Night

I have a Skimz SM161 on my 90g setup. The skimmer is almost 3 weeks old now, so I would assume it should be broken in by now. The skimmer is in a consistent 9.5" of water.

I can get the skimmer set to where it just starts to build a foam head under the base of the collection cup during the day. Sometime between 11pm and 6am is when it overflows and fills the collection cup.

This happens on nights that I do feed the tank and nights that I do not.

Not sure where to go from here, maybe set the skimmer up on a stand? Or set the water level lower in the skimmer?

9.5" is too much water for this skimmer, 8" seems to be the middle of the recommended depth.

IMO a skimmer works best at night and should be adjusted accordingly.
