Im still pretty new to coral. Had this birdsnest for about 2 months. Ive been noticing this whiteness but now its pretty bad. Ive never seen a fish pick at it but seems bleachig would take longer? Any help would be appriciated

Subscribed. It looks like it's not very happy. I hope someone gives a answer. I don't think it's liking the sand though

The sand is recent. In hopes that if it was bleaching the extra distance from my LED lights would help. doesnt seem to be though...

I would think if its bleaching from your lights then the top is going to be the effected area and not the bottom. The top gets the most and direct light. I think it is having STN or RTN but I am not very familiar with those two terms so I cant tell you for sure. I dont think its bleached though. Bleaching can happen overnight as well i beleive so its not a gradual process that you slowly see happen.

Have you had any swings in your water params? Alk swings i think can cause that. Just looks like your coral is dying from the calcium skeleton its created. Either your params arent at their correct levels or you are having stability issues with them and that coral is not liking it.

That looks a whole lot more like low alkalinity to me... What are your parameters?

Agreed, bleaching would start at top, same happened to one of mine when I added too much GFO at once. I fragged it and it survived.

Don't mean to hijack thread but does GFO lower alk?
