Upgrading a 2nd hand tank I bought, which had a simple hang on overflow...
I've seen external coast to coast overflows, but can't figure out how they work...
Is it possible to convert an existing tank to have one of those? Are there any diagrams anyone can point me to?
cheers

Not the easiest to make an external on an existing tank, especially glass. A Bean animal internal cost to cost is a bit simpler and about the best you can build, but anything involves drilling or cutting the glass. if it's an acrylic tank maybe a bit easier but still presents challenges.

drilling, cutting and siliconing are all super easy for glass. Acrylic is probably easier..
however, it's better to DIY an internal overflow. If it leaks, so be it.. I wouldn't recommend doing an external DIY overflow. If you are not professional, you risk a flood.
Just buy an external overflow unless you are confident about making it. (with experience)
