I filled my new 120 gal tank and 55 gal sump/refugium last week.New sand old rock and dropped in a couple of shrimp to start cycle . I fired up my skimmer just to make sure it was going to run fine because it, along with most of my other reefing equipment have been in storage for a long while.
shortly there after my skimmer stated freaking out, valve wide open and the cup is over flowing with clear slimy foam that took along while to pop. Even after it popped it left a slimy coating.
I ran some carbon and the foam calmed down and I took the skimmer out and have it running in some vinegar/ water solution for no other reason but to clean it up.
All my RO/DI filters,membrane,and resin are brand new and I flushed them out first before making and water for my system.
I also had some of my silicone in my sump/refugium start turning pink but while searching the forums ive found this is not uncommon, however im wondering if its related to my issue?
Any ideas?
