Getting ready to start dosing my tank with calk and alk. I have no sump or refuge and no overflow so I was wondering when dosing anything in my tank if I could run the dosing through the return in my hob skimmer it's a bh 2000 reefoctopus..if not is dosing straight into the tank bad?

Just pick a high flow area and spread your dosing of each part out by at least imo 15mins.

Go slow with the alk dosing and test often. Don't over shoot it initially It not only is bad to have a large fluctuation in alk most alk supplements will raise pH quite a bit. .

Make sure to test own of not daily for a week to get your doses dialed in. I think it would be fine to dose in the skimmer return.

he's just saying to test alk and calc daily until you get it dialed in right.

What product do you intend to dose?

I did the same thing with my BH1000 until I added a sump with no problems. I believe it is the same design just smaller and this worked way better for me than adding directly to my tank. At least it looked better as it cut down on the cloudiness the Alkalinity would produce by a ton.

The reason I asked the product is because some are far less prone to causing in tank precipitation than others (B-ionic Bicarbonate or my DIY two part using unbaked baking soda; for an alk only supplement, pure baking soda, etc.). :)
