The pic is from a packet of bread soda , is this pure enough for reef tank use with .03g of protein per 100g ?
What do you intend to accomplish with it?

It may be OK, but you should be able to find just regular baking soda. In the states the brand name is Arm & Hammer. I don't know what it would be in Ireland but I can't imagine that you guys wouldn't have it.

Strange. Does it list just sodium bicarbonate as the only ingredient?

Yes , just Sodium Bicarbonate is listed as ingredients . I have used it as an ALK supplement , but only recently has the nutritional information appeared on the packaging. I just can't figure where the protein comes from and the effect it could have on my aquarium .

Given how sodium bicarbonate is produced industrially, "protein" wouldn't be one of the contaminants I'd expect. Pretty odd.

It makes me wonder if it is really what we in the states call baking powder as opposed to baking soda.

Its definitely not baking powder that's the same in Ireland as the states , but baking soda is called bread soda in Ireland.

It is likely fine to use. Maybe someone ran it through a protein assay and got a nonzero answer, and put it on the label. :D

Just noticed it says on the packet " Packed on a line that also handles tree nuts and sulphur dioxide."

You'll be the first to dose nuts.

Yes, probably just a nut bit fell into the batch used to assay for protein.

Way out on a limb here, but can you end up with carbamic acid from the Solvay process? If they do protein by ammonia release that would fool it.

I should read better. I just saw the nut thing. That makes a lot more sense.
