Hi eeveryone, I'm just filling my 30 gallon DIY sump under my 55 gallon tank. My sump baffles are 9 inches tall so I'm thinking it holds about 20 gallons. How much weight can the floor take? My livingroom is about 25 years old, and the tank is against the wall if that makes a difference. I'm assuming there are much bigger tanks out there but some peace of mind would be great....

8 lbs per gallon. so that should come out to about 600 lbs plus about 100 to 150 for tanks etc. so your looking at 800 max. you should be fine to be on the safe side you could get under the house and make sure there is no damage to the floor joists. I have a 55 gallon sump with a 46 gallon display and my house was built in 1947... it has fallen through yet :)

Is it running parallel to the floor joists or perpendicular?

I've always been told to use 10lbs/gal. That compensates for the weight of glass, rocks, and water. My tank is a 90gal corner and it has no extra support under it beams under it might be 2 doesn't matter what way they run for my tank. My house is over 100yrs old so that is back when they made real wood beams, not like today's fake wood sized beams
