As the title indications, I'm looking to light a 5'x2'x2' 150G mixed reef and am curious as to whether a Reefbreeder Photon 48 would be a wise selection.

TIA

It would work, but you would have about 4-6" on either side that would be a bit dim. I actually think two photon 24s would be able to be spaced better

Damn, that's a shame. So it has no spread with the 90 degree optics, not even 6 inches on each side of the fixture?

+1 it would have to be mounted pretty high i tried one on my 60"x18"x25" and didnt like the huge par drops off the edges i ended up ordering a 60" ledzeal fixture the malibu s400 dont get me wrong the photin is a great light no doubt my corals love it so i put the photon over a 48" 90gal and the 90 is doing awsome!!! Just not long enough for my 120gal im sure its possible if you plan on low light corals off the sides l.

I disagree with not having enough spread, I currently own a photon48 over my 150 6ft tank with 120 optics and while it is a little shaded on the sides, its still lit. And this is on a 72" tank. A 5ft tank would work perfectly I think depending on how high or low you hung it. Here's my tank http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/09/8amu5y9a.jpg

And this is was taken during my acclimation period, not even at full capacity

The photon48 with 90s works well on 5 foot tanks about a foot off of the water, we have not had many customers report issues with one on a 5 foot tank.

Thanks, Logan. Much appreciated. I know that 5' tanks aren't typical so information on sufficient lighting is more scarce than one would think.

If you find you have dark areas, take the optics off the LED's and move it closer to the surface.

You'll be fine with a 48" fixture on a 60" tank.

It will work and light the tank but the par drops alot off the sides i was 11" off the surface getting 465 par right below mid tank 24" tall the fixture then right off the sides it drops to 120-140 were at the glass edge its 90-60 the tank looks lit no doubt just slightly dimmer but that dont mean the light in those areas are usable for more then softis or low light corals that was my only reason for getting a 60" fixture too eliminate shaded ends and open my avalibilty for coral placement.
Now dont get me wrong the photon48 is a very nice fixture and i love mine over my 48" 90 gal and so do my corals and my plans were to run one over my 120 60" tank but after hanging it the trial ended quick lol its all personal preferance i believe .

Nah I agree with ya! That's why I'm currently looking to go another route with my lights. My photon works fine on my 72" but I wanna a fully lit tank, corners and all. Lol
