View Full Version : Would this setup cause heat problems?

I am planning on using a Mag 9.5 to feed my reactors and refugium and a Mag 12 for a Lifereef skimmer. Would this expell too much heat? I'm using an external pump for my return and would consider using another external pump for the skimmer but I'm thinking if I have the skimmer pump be fed from the sump where the fuge drains then not many pods will make it back to the DT and just get sucked up by the skimmer. Need some advice on this setup.
Thanks.

Depends on how big of system this will be in. Mags are known to be heaters, maybe think about going with a different pump like an ehiem or a tunze silence.

The system will be a 90g DT, 150g sump, and a 50g fuge.
I would really like to avoid using a chiller.

Skip the Mags, you want the last amount of submerged wattage you can get away with.

So investing in another external pump would be smart then. Maybie i can just keep the mag 9.5 in for the fuge and reactors. I didn't want anything running off my return line since I'm using the herbie method.

I've decided to use the mag 12 for the skimmer and use an external for my reactors and refugium and external for the return. Plus using a fan in the sump and the inside the canopy of the DT will help.

I just replaced my mag24 with a sicce syncra hf10. Quieter, half the wattage and 2 degrees cooler.
