So my refugium in a 60 gallon tank with custom shelves to seld rate each level .. I made a little acrylic box with holes in the bottom ... I've been using filter socks but they have been getting clogged and over flowing I cb aged the microns and it just happens to often . Just wondering what are my other options .. Fred floss maybe also any ideas on what I could use to stop the splashing that comes up for the box ..??

I believe socks work better if used as untended wher the water flows thru the sock vs. accross the surface of the sock. Sounds like there is no pressure to push the water through the material, most of which are commonly 200 micron. The filter activity should be below the waterline to negate splash and noise. My sock hangs by a simple plasticky hook from the sidewall of the sump and my Herbie drain drops into it about 2" below the waterline. Dead silent and I change it every other day. A better description and pics might get you better answers. Good lick!

I found the aqueon pro flex series sumps have an interesting system for handling filter socks. Except for the top inch / inch & a half of the sock, the sock is left below the water line. Additionally the way the water comes into the sock chamber is supposed to minimize noise as well. I modeled my sump after the pro flex series for this reason, I have yet to start it up based on YouTube videos it's much better than having a pipe shooting straight down through the sock (utilizes more surface area for filtering). Here are some photos, I just finished it yesterday. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/18/gamyhary.jpg

Oh, and as you may notice my modifications of the original design allow me to remove the platform, option to install multiple overflow lines & to change my orientation depending on how many overflows are coming in. And as is true for all the proflex series, water levels in the sock chamber can be adjusted. I believe my customized design is better....
