Sorry if I didn't post this in the right thread. I'm new to this forum.

I am trying to make an intake refugium. I bought less than a lbs of live rock and 10 snails to go in it (all the snails escaped). On this rock however it seemed that it was covered in white slime and there was this dense area of white (I couldn't tell if it was a cluster of slime or not). I research what this white stuff could be and found that it might be a sponge, so I took the live rock out and I am now letting it dry. However out of the tank the rock looks fine with the exception of the dense white area which actually looks fuzzy out of the water. Does anyone know what this might be?

Probably a sponge which is harmless. A picture would definitely help.

Please post a pic - in all likelihood it's a sponge though....that's not a bad thing.

Why are you trying to kill the sponge? All sponges do is sit.

I will also say most likely a sponge... No reason to kill it.
