View Full Version : Replacement Membrane and Filter?

OK Here we go... I have a BRS 5 stage 150 gpd RODI system. It has 2 RO Membranes - http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-5-stage-water-saver-plus-ro-di-system-150gpd.html . Hindsight being 20/20 this was way too much unit for my 120g and I sold the additional 75g that was going to be a fowlr tank.

My issue is that I burn through DI resin like there is no tomorrow. As best I can figure I get about 96% rejection out of the RO membrane. My TDS going into the system is about 330ppm and I believe the last time I checked it was around 12 out of the membrane.

At any rate I am wondering if I can remove one of the membranes and bring it back to a 75 - 90 gpd unit using the spectrapure membrane?

You should also look into testing your water for C02. high levels will burn through DI resin very quickly.

Sounds like you have the same unit I just installed. I MADE 250 GALLONS OF WATER AND MY DI is shot. Not sure if there is an issue with a membrane or what is going on but my water is 450 tap and out of the membranes still pushing over 100 going into the Di.

Poor rejection performance will definitely burn thru your DI.

Yes you can reconfigure you system and improve your performance for water production costs.

a simple diagram is found here you should be able to use as a starting point:

Scott or Jeremy will be glad to help you with that, although pictures of your plumbing etc. will help. It may be best to PM them and they will get with you off line on how to redo your system.

As mmakay mentioned either of you may have CO2 (we have a simple test kit to determine this) which consumes DI resin although is not shown on your simple TDS meter.

CO2 test kit-
