Hello To all Reef Central members. I was referred to RC by a fellow reefer and thought I would stop in to see how this forum compared to others I have been on. I have heard so many great things!
About me:
My name is Michael and I have been in the saltwater hobby off and on since 2007. I currently have just upgraded to a 140 gallon Oceanic tank with dual overflows and will start putting livestock in it this coming week or so. Before that, I had a 29 gallon Biocube. In the past, I have had anywhere from a 20 gallon to a 75 gallon, which the 75 gallon was my favorite.
In my tank, I have multiple things coming in this coming week. The first is two Semi Picasso clowns with a Sherman RBTA, Kole Tang, and enough corals to get me started. I have already introduced a cleanup crew mixed with crabs and snails! I am not going to put too many fish in the tank but more corals.
As for as corals, I am more of a "the easier type of coral, the better" type of guy. Though I will get a few SPS, mushrooms, polyps, zoas, hammers, torches, and corals like that are ones I love.
As for as the set-up of my tank, I have a PM 40 gallon sump, 2 Coralife Turbo Sea pumps (793 GPH), 15W Coralife Mega Watt UV Sterilizer, and 2 SEIO flow pumps. The lighting system is a Coralife 48" Coralife Aqualight Elite 2x250 Watt. I have roughly around 200 lbs of liverock that has been going strong for at least 5 years. I just put a new sand bed a week ago.
I have decided to put the tank in one room and plumb the sump through the wall and into the garage. In the past week, I have not had a lot of luck when it comes to PM skimmers. I have cracked two, trying to fix the plumbing and the one I have now is leaking really bad. I am going to buy a insump skimmer this September if not sooner.
Sorry about the long posting, but I hope to get to know a lot of members and learn things that I couldn't on the other forums!
